South Africa’s favourite comedy uncles, Bala & Peru, are bringing down the curtain on their illustrious 17 year career this winter. Local fans can catch them for the last time in their Bala & Peru Farewell Tour at Hemingways in July. The show, anticipated to be a sell-out, takes place at the Venue@Hemingways on the 12th of July 2014.
Tickets are already on sale through Computicket at R 150 per person. Fans are urged to book fast to avoid missing the hysterical pair as they do their final round of shows.
“After years of record-breaking shows Vikash Mathura and Ray Maharaj areretiring. We are pleased to have secured a date for them to perform live for their East London fan base for the last time. Come and watch them bid farewell,” says the casino’s Marketing Manager, Neville Austin.
The shock announcement in December of their decision to retire from Lotus FM signals the end of an era of Mathura’s dominance in the radio broadcasting and entertainment industry. For 23 years, he has been ranked as the Number 1 Radio DJ on Lotus FM.
It also brings to an end a 17-year radio career for Maharaj who has himself become a broadcasting institution. Their “Week End Lift Off” radio show has boasted the station’s highest listenership since 1998. Die-hard fans have been tuning in every Saturday morning (7am to 10am) from more than 40 countries in five continents.
In a fitting send off, the pair is set to rock South Africa’s major cities with 15 concerts planned for July and August. Fans of these legendary entertainers will have this final opportunity to watch their favorite comic characters bid farewell on stage. It promises to be both hilariously funny…and very emotional.
